In Oct 2022 I did a photo trip along the coast of Maine with a good friend. The idea was to photograph New England autumn from a different perspective. So instead of searching for compositions with colorful leaves we planned to capture the waves, lighthouses, marshes and harbors of the seacoast. When we got to Lubec Maine, on the boarder of Canada, we not only had some great photo opportunities but we made some new friends while eating dinner and having a beer. One guy we met at the bar where we sat, was Zach (by the way its always a good idea to sit at the bar).
Unlike most locals we met, Zach only lived in Lubec for 2 years. He was a fisherman and is what you call a greenhorn. Still learning the trade and doing the dirty work. We learned a lot about Lubec and commercial fishing from Zach. Then we parted ways thinking our paths would never cross again. But to our surprise, the next morning as we photographed one of the boats in the fog, there was Zach along with the captain and fellow fisherman getting the boat named "Two Girls" ready to fish. My friend and I peppered the captain and crew with questions as we took photos. Eventually it was clear we were slowing them down and we had to let them do their work.
And just by chance I had setup a Gopro and filmed a time lapse of the entire exchange. Enjoy the photos but be sure to watch the movie. To see the full gallery from the trip look under NH & Nearby.
